The technology for enPortal was borne out of Edge N-Vision. Edge N-Vision was the first real-time Java-based network management software. Introduced in 1997, Edge N-Vision quickly became known in leading industry publications as one of the best advancements for enterprise management. In March, 1998 Sun Microsystems adopted Edge N-Vision as its Web interface for the entire Solstice™ management product line.
