ABSTRACT:
WAN optimization technologies can be almost magical; they can produce
greatly improved performance while paying for themselves in only a year
or less. But their effectiveness strongly depends on the data
characteristics and protocols being optimized; their implementation can
be complex; and simple measurements of their effectiveness can be misled
by the optimization technologies.
This webcast therefore focuses on two topics:
- Analysis of enterprise traffic to determine those data
flows that are the best candidates for optimization.
- Measurement of the effectiveness of that optimization.
Join us if you are considering the use of WAN optimization and want some advice on choosing your first candidate data flows for optimization and on
measuring the results to justify the cost of optimization.

Eric Siegel is a nationally known authority on Web performance measurement and optimization. He is the author of two acclaimed books, "Designing Quality of Service Solutions for the Enterprise" (John Wiley & Sons) and "Practical Service Level Management: Delivering High-Quality Web-Based Services" (with John McConnell; Cisco Press). He has 30 years of experience in design and evaluation of computer networks, including system performance evaluation and security issues at the MITRE corporation, as network architect at Tandem Computers and as network designer and author of major portions of Burton Group's original Reference Architecture at NetReference. He has been an invited presenter at dozens of industry conferences and has been cited hundreds of times in the popular and technical press about Internet performance.
