Distributed Denial of Services Attacks are the #1 threat to availability on the Internet today. 2008's botnets have grown in every direction: size, sophistication and resiliency, with capabilities bordering on self-awareness. With numbers of attacks approaching 15,000/day, and 3 to 5% of the traffic on the internet being attributed to botnets, they represent tremendous risk that needs to be understood and managed to guarantee uptime of critical internet-connected services.

Dave Dittrich
Senior Security Engineer, Cybersecurity
Dave Dittrich is a Senior Security Engineer and Researcher for the UW Center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity and the Information School at the University of Washington. Dave is prominently known for his research into Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack tools and host & network forensics. He has presented at computer security conferences and government organizations and co-authored the first book on DDoS, titled "Internet Denial of Service: Attack and Defense Mechanisms."
