ABSTRACT:
Intel IT planned, engineered, and has begun implementing a virtualized business-computing production environment. Our multi-year initiative has already confirmed virtualization benefits including server consolidation ratios between 10:1 and 16:1, faster deployment, and faster recovery. Server virtualization and consolidation promises to help organizations reduce costs, increase agility, and reduce energy consumption. However, implementing virtualization is complex and can appear daunting. We have already deployed several hundred virtual machines (VMs) and expect that our worldwide business-computing production environment will grow to about 1,200 VMs at several data centers worldwide by the end of 2008.
